Greetings from the Grand Papua in the centre of downtown Port Moresby. Let me tell you a few facts about this iconic hotel.
Be assured that the hotel lives up to its name as the latest and grandest of the three Papua Hotels that have stood in this location since the early 1900s.
The first Papua Hotel was at the cutting edge of innovation, at various times being the first to have stabling for guest’s horses, electricity, hot water, motor vehicles and air conditioning. To differentiate the hotel from the only other accommodation establishment in town at the time, the Papua Hotel was known as the ‘top pub’.
General Douglas McArthur was one of the first ‘guests’ of the second Papua Hotel during World War Two, when he commandeered the building as his headquarters. When the hotel officially re-opened in September 1947, it boasted 44 bespoke rooms and a dining room seating 120, which was renowned as being one of the best places in town to eat.
Today’s Grand Papua Hotel is a modern, up-market boutique hotel hosting luxurious short and long-stay apartments with more than 100 above-premium hotel rooms, the fine dining Grand Brasserie restaurant, rooftop dining Under the Shade and Executive Lounge, swimming pool, the Grand Spa, conference facilities and the atmospheric and exclusive Grand Bar.
The Grand Papua Hotel has all the necessary communication and entertainment facilities and is a member of Radisson Individuals. Built in 2011, the Grand Papua Hotel is currently six months into a makeover. A major rejuvenation of our restaurant, bar, lobby, guestrooms as well as the top floor Executive Lounge is well underway.
I promise you that even whilst rejuvenation works are underway, the hotel is 100% open and will continue to deliver the best services.
I assure you that if what is required is a central location for a business meeting or conference, with secure underground parking close to everything in town, top-class catering and a bar for quiet drinks and confidential networking afterwards, then the Grand Papua is your ideal choice.
We also have fifty-one serviced, balconied apartments and residences; also suitable for those who may wish to stay in Port Moresby for longer periods and still want access to all the comforts and facilities that the hotel has to offer.
I understand that some might yearn for a bit more luxury, and on the 16th floor we have four Executive Suites and four Presidential Suites, ideal for executive accommodation, small and large business meetings and conferencing.
I invite you to celebrate your individuality and join me in the grandeur of Papua New Guinean hospitality at the Grand Papua, which is, on many levels, still the “top pub”.
