Whilst in Papua New Guinea, take some time to see the local attractions, there is something for everyone, whether you’re feeling adventurous or interested in absorbing some of the impressive culture and customs.

Port Moresby Nature Park

Port Moresby Nature Park is PNG’s only internationally recognised wildlife park and sets the benchmark in PNG for tourism, animal welfare, conservation, research and community nature-based education. It hosts over 130,000 visitors to the park each year.

The Park has won a number of international awards for its work including the historic Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia (ZAA) award for its Sister Zoo Capacity Development Partnership Program in 2016, and again in 2018 it won an education award for small institutions for its World Wildlife Week program focused on educating school-aged children about the importance of native wildlife conservation and preservation.

Varirata National Park

The Varirata National Park recently opened their new Information Centre at Sogeri outside of Port Moresby. The modern information centre will enhance visitors experience to the nature park. The park is already popular with schools excursions, bird watching, weekend outings for city residents and nature tours. PNGTPA is a partner in the development of the Variarata National Park through setting up of signboards and working with JICA to develop bird watching attractions in the nature park.

National Museum and Art Gallery

The PNG National Museum and Art Gallery [NMAG] was built in 1975 and opened to the public 1977. It houses artefacts from 19 provinces of the country. The earliest collection dates back to 1800’s by early administration of Papua Sir William MacGregor.

Bomana War Cemetery/Memorial

Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery lies approximately 19 kilometres north of Port Moresby on the road to Nine Mile, and is approached from the main road by a short side road called Pilgrims Way.
